Beat the February Blues by Revamping Your Home!

So here we are again in the midst of bleak midwinter as February, statistically one our bleakest coldest months in the UK, steps ever closer. But what’s really not to like about February? OK, it’s a bit cold and grey outside, but that’s all the more reason to look forward to cosy indoor evenings. It’s also a great time of year to start looking at some DIY and home refreshes.

So, this coming month, enjoy the last days of winter from a warm, comfortable home, and gently ease yourself into the first signs of spring and the new look home you want to create!

Get ready for a spring refresh You might not be quite in the right frame of mind at this time of year for getting stuck in with the paintbrushes, but February is the perfect month to get organised for a house makeover.

Set your sites on one room you want to update, go down to your local DIY store and gather together wallpaper swatches and paint samples – you could even fashion a mood board if you’re feeling particularly creative. If you are planning a big job, such as a new kitchen or an extension, call in a handful of designers, builders, or architects for quotes and plans to compare. It’s a great time to do all the research now so you’re ready to get going with a clear vision when spring arrives.

Improve your Bedroom With National Bed Month just around the corner in March (yes, it’s a real thing!), it’s a good time to take a long, hard look at the place you sleep – and, more specifically, at your mattress itself. We spend an amazing one third of our lives in bed, so the experts recommend replacing your mattress once every seven years, at the very least. National Bed Month is organised by The Sleep Council, check out their website for loads of information and advice on how to buy the right bed and mattress.

The Garden Day by day the evenings are slowly getting lighter, which means spring is finally on the horizon! The first signs of life such as buds and daffodils starting to break the surface are beginning to appear in the garden. That means tthere are plenty of jobs to do out in the garden in readiness for the season ahead. Think about pruning shrubs and prepare vegetable seed beds for spring planting. You could even start growing seeds and saplings indoors ready to be put out in spring.

Sort the Kitchen For many of us the annual spring clean is just around the corner so why not get a head start by sorting out the kitchen cupboards? It feels great to throw out old bottles and jars of herbs, spices and condiments that are past their sell-by date and re-organise your cupboards and drawers. This is also a great opportunity to sort through your cooking kit and ditch any pans, utensils and crockery that are past their best.

Love you home February is, of course, traditionally the month of love, but why not give your home a romantic vibe that will last all year round? The winter is a great month for redecorating, you could refresh the bedroom walls, display vases of beautiful faux flowers and scatter cushions for a cosy romantic feel.
